What’s that, how does it work and what can you expect?
Up to six people enter a room. Working together they must examine their surroundings for clues and solve complex puzzles. Racing against the clock, they only have one hour to solve all the puzzles and challenges of the room before time runs out. Who would do something like that for fun? Lots of people!
Known as Escape Rooms, these challenging games have, since 2011, become an entertainment phenomenon enjoyed by players all over the world.
At Crime Runners, our goal is to create an extraordinary experience building upon the original concept of the Escape Room. Through narrative, use of sound and visuals, and interactive elements, we seek to stand apart and make our mark on the Escape Room industry. What is Crime Runners?
Crime Runners is an evolution of the classic Escape Room. You and your team of friends enter a room full of puzzles with a mission to complete. Within one hour, you must solve varied logical puzzles in order to achieve your aim and complete the mission.
How do I pay?
Payment can be made in cash before your mission begins, through PayPal, credit card, or via an electronic transfer.
How many people can play at the same time?
Our rooms are suitable for teams of between 2 to 6 people. Should your group be larger than 6 players, it is advisable to separate into different teams and book more than one room. For much larger groups, please see our “Team Building” page.
What language do I have to speak?
Our games are available in both German and English. Our experiences contain many audio and video elements, all of which are bilingual. Simply select your preferred language when you place your order, or inform our game masters at the branch and they will begin your experience in the correct language. German-speaking players should ideally have a basic knowledge of English.
How old should I be to play?
We recommend a minimum age of 14 in order to fully experience our games. In addition, younger Crime Runners must have at least one responsible adult in the group. Our adventures are also suitable for the whole family, as shown by our inclusion on the Austrian information page for families mamilade.at. When accompanied by a responsible adult, young Crime Runners from the age of 10 can experience our adventure!
Where do I find you?
Our first three adventures, “The Congressman trilogy”, in which you’ll uncover the secrets of the devious politician Simon Dickson, are located in our Schottentor branch at Maria-Theresien-Strasse 3/1a in Vienna’s 9th district.
“Going Underground”, our premium 90-minute adventure is also in the 9th district, on the corner of Hernalser Gürtel 24 Tür 1 / Alser Straße.
Both venues are easily accessible by public transport. The Congressman trilogy is a few minutes walk from the U2 station at Schottentor, and Going Underground is likewise only a few minutes from the U6 station at Alser Straße.
Is Crime Runners suitable as a Teambuilding measure?
Absolutely! Our rooms stimulate cooperation within a team and will enable you to get to know your colleagues from a completely different point of view. Here at Crime Runners we have three different rooms. We recommend parents and teachers try our first chapter “The Dark Secret of the Congressman”. Unaccompanied children must be over the age of 14 in order to play. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
At its heart, the core idea of an Escape Room is just that, to escape the room. At Crime Runners we take the concept further into a narrative space that tells a story through the puzzles themselves. You are never physically locked into the room, and our friendly Gamemasters will be on hand by radio at all times. They will also keep an eye on your group during the game via cameras in the room.
Parents and teachers can also take an active role by preparing children to take part in the game. It’s a good idea to help give them a clear structure at the beginning of the room, through the gathering of objects and clues, and then work together on completing the puzzles.

What is the procedure on the day of our game?
Please arrive about 10 minutes before the booking time so that you can be received, briefed, and begin your game on time. There is no need to bring tools or special clothing. The puzzles are entirely logic-based, physical strength is not necessary.
What happens when you’re stuck with a riddle?
Many of our hints are integrated directly into the game. Should these be insufficient, you can contact us at any time during the game using a walkie-talkie. For example, should you get stuck or wish to stop the game prematurely.
Are people really locked inside the room?
Not at all! The games may be colloquially called “Escape Games”, however, in reality our rooms are not about “escape”, but completing other missions. For this reason, guests are never locked in anywhere on site. All doors are either left open or have an emergency exit switch right beside them, and can be opened anytime. In the event of a power outage, the doors all open automatically. In addition, for security and game control reasons, at least one employee will always be keeping an eye on you in real-time using our cameras, and are empowered to intervene in case of an emergency. There’s no need to worry!
